この度、大変ありがたいことにCheiron-GIFTS 2026(Cheiron Grant Initiative for Families enabling Tomorrow’s Science 2026)に採択されました。

Cheiron-GIFTSはフェローシップ、研究費では賄い切れない研究者ライフをサポートするため、日本のNPO法人ケイロン・イニシアチブによって創設された研究者の家族・パートナー自身が応募できる助成金制度です。

円安が進む今、研究者家族が一緒に渡航した場合、帯同家族が自分のキャリアや活動を続けるための余裕はどんどんなくなっています。また、そうした中で自分の仕事や役割を中断してまで一緒に渡航することを躊躇する研究者家族は少なくありません。

実際に私もイギリスに来る前にとても悩みました。陶芸の技術を学び、やっと展示の機会をいただけるようになってきた矢先に日本での活動を一時中断するにはかなり勇気が必要でした。しかし、Cheiron-GIFTSを知り、帯同家族の抱える困難さを理解して手を差し伸べてくれる存在がいることにとても勇気づけられました。NPO法人ケイロン・イニシアチブの皆さんには本当に感謝しています。

いただいた助成金は制作環境の整備とイギリスでの技術習得のためのワークショップ参加費用に当てさせていただく予定です。

I’m very grateful to share that I was selected for Cheiron-GIFTS 2026 (Cheiron Grant Initiative for Families enabling Tomorrow’s Science 2026) .

Cheiron-GIFTS is a grant program created by the Japanese NPO Cheiron Initiative. It supports parts of a researcher’s family life that fellowships and research funding usually don’t cover, and it’s open to researchers’ family members and partners themselves.

With the yen weakening, when a researcher’s family moves abroad together, it’s becoming harder and harder for the accompanying partner to keep up their own career or activities. Because of this, many researchers’ families hesitate to move abroad together, since it often means pausing their own work or role.

I struggled with this too before coming to the UK. I had just started learning ceramics and finally getting opportunities to exhibit my work, so it took a lot of courage to put my activities in Japan on hold. But learning about Cheiron-GIFTS, and knowing there were people who understood what accompanying families go through and were willing to support them, gave me real courage. I’m truly grateful to everyone at the Cheiron Initiative.

I plan to use the grant to set up my working environment and to cover the cost of workshops in the UK to develop my skills.
